Navelli. The homeland of saffron
The Navelli plateau, 700 meters above sea level, is located in Abruzzo Italian region, L’Aquila province. It is placed at the limit between the sub-hilly or maritime side and the mountainside. This particular location gives it a unique microclimate.
In fact, the Maiella and Gran Sasso-Laga mountains partially block the eastern winds, while the Simbruini and Matese Mountains block the western winds, allowing the flow of warm air to mitigate the climate.
This is why the summers are dry but not arid and the springs are rainy but not too cold.
The soil is percolating and of karstic nature, poor in surface waters, particularly rich in minerals with a slope that avoids stagnation of water and moisture.
The saffron bulbs sown here, found the ideal conditions to offer a delicate taste and smell, a unique balance of perfumes that make it the most precious spice and sought after by the best chefs in the world.
